Well, that's it for the year, the car will get a deep inspection, engine service and prepared for storage and put away for a while.
Plans for the winter . . . nothing much, re manufactured engine mounts and a new exhaust, lighter silencer in the sidepod I think, perhaps with a side exit for simplicity. If required we'll have to do some anti intrusion mods for eligibility next year, we'll see how that all pans out tho. On the driving side . . . well, still struggling for consistency, my times are all over the place, fast sometimes, not fast other times. I think I'm over driving the car at times and it's not working well when I do that. In the wet I just cannot get my head around the car . . . I think it's probably over damped at the rear (anyway) for the wet, so next year will see some experimentation on that front, I'm going nowhere in the wet as it is so it's worth trying some changes. A fresh set of slicks has got to be on the cards for the season too. Fin Tuesday, October 4. 2011Boyndie Sprint, 24-25 Sept 2011
It was DRY !!! . . . at last a dry event
Saturday was the opportunity of the year for an FTD, didn't quite make it tho', 2nd FTD was as close as I got, still given the cold weather and the slightly longer than normal track (long story subject to much discussion) a PB wasn't on the cards either, but I wasn't too unhappy with the driving . . . Nikki was also double entering the car under a watchful eye :- ![]() Her best run . . . Brilliant Sunday was a different game altogether . . . trying too hard and going slow, way off the pace and nothing I did helped, span the car twice and was generally pretty useless . . . it's all in the mind of course, but sometimes thats the most difficult part . . . . . . and for a different perspective . . . wingcam . . . a cheap, almost disposable, micro video camera, it doesn't like the vibration much, but a good experiment . . . So . . . that's the season over, a good weekend and a frustrating weekend all in one . . . a compresed version of the season really . . . Wednesday, September 21. 2011Doune September 2011
A Wet and frustrating Doune . . .
Couldn't get the car and the hill into my head, slow, slow, slow . . . Vids from the net . . . Incar, wet, wet and wet, driving like a granny . . . New PB but very off the pace, but we'll get there with a dry day next year Thought I'd record the non racing part, following 1/3rd of a million quids worth of state of the art hillclimb chassis (excluding the cost of the engines) back down the hill We'll be back, with the head in a better place . . . Thursday, September 15. 2011Golspie Sprint, 10/11 Sept '11
Well, here we were at Golspie, a hellish Saturday with rain and multiple oil spills on the track . . . FFS . . . scrutineer the cars . . . very nearly packed up and went home on Saturday evening . . . but had a nice evening in Tain with Dr Munro's Family . . . thanks Roy . . .
Watch for the oil on the track :- Nikki was out in the OMS on Saturday for the first time, great control and nerve to drive such a different car in perhaps the worst conditions of the year . . . One dry run on Sunday and I managed a new PB (in practice) but beggers can't be choosers . . . not far from the head of the class now Not an ideal weekend . . . but it's an outdoor sport . . . Saturday, August 27. 2011Harewood Hillclimb 6/7 August 2011
First time to Harewood and I think it's safe to say we'll be back . . . lovely wee track . . .
Trucked down on Friday night, about 4.5 hours down the M6,A66 and M1 and met up with Dr Weeks et all for a scoof of wine, preceded by a fish supper from the local fish suppery . . . perfect . . . Weather over the weekend was completely changable from full wet to full dry, perhaps not ideal for learning as the conditions were different for each run, but hey . . . it was fun learning . . . The best run of the weekend for me was good enough for 3rd in class :- An earlier run from the Paddock showing the track and showing the height gained very well (thanks for the vid Angela) :- And the first spin in the car . . . oh so very, very easy . . . Also managed to pull part of the underfloor off the car (per the second video), simple enough to fix but something I can't be bothered with doing too frequently . . . Decent result against some more experienced competition . . . thoroughly enjoyed it Saturdays results here and sundays here. Sunday, July 24. 2011Boyndie
Perfect conditions and some things starting to come together in the car . . .
2nd FTD behind Dr Weeks on Saturday, 3rd FTD behind Dr Munro and Dr Weeks on Sunday. Times improving lap on lap, time to come, best run was T2 on Sunday. No incar video - forgot the memory card for the recorder, some out of car footage of Sundays T2 . . . Brilliant Results here. Sunday, July 24. 2011Wet Doune
Hugely changable weather at Doune with primarily damp and greasy conditions . . . not a great weekend and taking things easy, not confident in the car in the damp . . .
Best run of the weekend, but slow and very cautious, still best to go home in one piece as lots of cars didn't P3 Sunday, July 24. 2011Catchup . . .
Limited Events as life is busy
Fintray, first event in competition, hellish, slippy, not pleasant or enjoyable although an evening's banter with Dr Weeks et al was enjoyable Only run I got on camera, flat batteries, camera now powered by the car . . . Golspie, dry at last, some light at the end of the tunnel but off the pace and no consistency in the timed runs, keeping the tyres in good condition is obviously more important than I had hoped. Good evenings banter in Tain with Dr Munro and Dr Weeks et al Best Run (practice) T1 T2 Sunday, July 24. 2011Completion . . .
Lots of work followed the mechanical engine fit, wiring loom and lots of plumbing needed, all taking time . . .
Started first attempt, although the wiring needs some work First test session - lap 12 - engine failure, oil pressure problem, 2 rods and a crank damaged . . . Not a happy drive home Thursday, February 17. 2011Engine Fit
Close, very close, 2 final welds to be done to the chassis, front mounts made (templated), lower rear mounts just need tacked to the chassis then the engine removed for final welding. The engine frame needs a coat of paint to protect it and tidy it up and all the new mounts need painted too.
![]() Engine and Exhaust mock up prior to final welding ![]() Front chassis adapter, left hand, not the most pretty welding, but strong and accurate . . . Got the sprockets and chain ordered today and the oil cooler bypass pipework cut and sent for some proper welding . . . first weekend back from holiday it should be fully installed and drivable . . . Friday, February 4. 2011GSXR 1000 K8 - Getting it working on the bike loom and ECU
Oil Cooler Bypass : If there is a grub screw under the oil filter (remove it to check) then this can be removed and the oil cooler feed and return can be sealed. If there is no grub screw then the oil cooler lines can be linked together but not sealed.
'PAIR' ports : On top of cam cover, should be connected together with a length of hose or sealed. Clutch Switch : if possible rig so that this is actually the clutch switch, some ECU variants can go into reduced power mode if they don't see the clutch switch being used. Crank Case Breather : to a catch tank with a breather, block air filter ingress port. Immobiliser bypass, main ECU power control : On the ignition switch multiblock (5 wires) red to orange is main power on/off, connect 100 ohm resistor between Orange and Orange/Yellow for Immobiliser bypass. Timing Retard Eliminator : Disconnect gear change and measure resistance in 5th gear. Rig potential divider to emulate 5th gear config and connect to ECU. gear position indicator can be run from the original sensor. Sunday, October 24. 2010New Car . . .
Well here it is, the next thing . . .
![]() It's a 2005/6 OMS 2000m from OMS Racing in Yorkshire. No engine fitted as yet but it will be a GSXR 1000 when I get one . . . More later Friday, October 1. 2010Doune
The last Doune in the Tango . . . the car was sold, DO NOT CRASH IT
Time runs on Sunday were slow and wet . . . Practice on Saturday was slow having not been in the car for a year . . . Sad to see it go, happy to see it go . . . roll on next year . . . Monday, April 26. 2010April Doune![]() Melvyn Hartley ![]() Trevor Gordon ![]() Les Mutch ![]() Lesley Sheridan Friday, January 8. 2010New Year
Well, another new year has clicked round the clock . . .
Looking back at last year . . . what a damn fine season . . . a new PB at each venue shows that there is time to come everywhere . . . an equally fantastic year of banter of course . . . many thanks to all the loons and quines in the community . . . we had a blast . . . I know y'all did too . . . A shortage of work (and funds) have suspended car development in the last few months . . . but that situation now being resolved it's time to look forwards to the 2010 season . . . So . . . new engine or new car . . . Class C4 and a single seater is attractive as it's where I want to go eventually . . . however a season in A6 with the fiercely competitive beer drinkers . . . is also very attractive . . . Time to start thinking about this rather than forgetting about it I think Highlights of the year for me :- Doune of course, THE event . . . This is for Lawrence . . . RIP buddy . . . I'm sure you'd be buzzin after this like me . . . Video :- And Still :- ![]() Roll on 2010 Ireland trip . . . Southern Shenanigans . . . should be a hell of a lot of fun |
